Private Network & VPC Uptime Monitoring
Most of your infrastructure was never meant to be public — internal APIs, databases, and admin tools live inside a VPC, intranet, or on-premise network for a reason. DownWarning monitors them anyway, without asking you to expose a single port.
Install Inside Your Network
Run the local agent on any machine inside your VPC, intranet, or on-premise network — Linux, macOS, or Windows.
Check Everything Internal
HTTP, Ping, and Port checks run against your internal servers, exactly as if the agent were one of your own services.
Encrypted Results, Zero Exposure
Only the check results leave your network, over an outbound HTTPS connection. Nothing inbound, ever.
Why monitor a private network this way
VPNs and bastion hosts add operational overhead just to let a monitoring tool peek inside your network. Punching a hole in your firewall for a public monitor defeats the purpose of keeping infrastructure private in the first place.
DownWarning flips the model: the agent lives inside your network and calls out to us, so your VPC, intranet, or segmented network never has to accept inbound traffic.
This also sidesteps a common tradeoff: teams either expose internal services publicly just to monitor them, or they skip monitoring internal infrastructure altogether. A local agent means you don't have to choose — everything inside the network gets the same visibility as everything outside it, without changing how the network itself is secured or who is allowed to reach it.
If your infrastructure spans an on-premise data center and a cloud VPC at the same time, a local agent in each environment gives you one consistent view instead of stitching together whatever native monitoring each provider happens to offer. The dashboard doesn't distinguish between an on-premise server and a cloud instance — both are just monitors, on the same alert rules and the same status page.
Private Network Monitoring FAQ
Can DownWarning monitor an air-gapped or fully isolated network?
If the network has no outbound internet access at all, the agent cannot report results, since it works by making outbound HTTPS calls. For any private network with outbound access — VPC, intranet, or otherwise segmented network — the agent works normally.
Do I need to open any inbound firewall rules?
No. The agent only makes outbound connections. Your private network's inbound firewall rules can stay exactly as restrictive as they are today.
Can I monitor multiple private networks or VPCs from one account?
Yes. You can deploy a local agent in each private network or VPC you want to monitor, and view all of them together on a single DownWarning dashboard.
Does the agent work across a site-to-site VPN or multiple VPCs?
Yes. Install an agent in each private network, VPC, or site you want visibility into, and view every result together on one dashboard — you don't need a single flat network for it to work.
